"In the name of God AMEN. I William Atkinson of Goochland County and Parish of St. James, Northam, being sick, tho perfectly in my Senses, do make this my Last Will and Testatment in the following manner. My Desire is that after my Decease my body be Decently interred at the Discretion of my Exors and that Rever'd Mr. Douglas, be got to preach my funeral sermon. And as to the worldly Efforts and Possessions I Dispose of in the following manner
Item I give and bequeath to my son Josiah Atkinson one hundred and sixty acres of land being part of the Tract whereon I now live to Include the brook Tract & Ballance to make up the Qu--ty (Quantity) to be laid off adjoining Elizabeth Napiers his which land I do give him together with a feather bed and furniture commonly called his, to him and his heirs forever.
Item I give to my daughter Anne Atkinson, one Feather bed and Furniture which bed ect. she commonly makes use of to her and her heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Atkinson one feather bed and furniture which she commonly makes use of to her and her heirs forever.
Item I lend the residue of my Estate to my wife Mary During her Widowhood to be hers personally possessed without Molestation which consists of one hundred and fifty acres of Land whereon I now live. Six negroes all my household and Kitchen furniture not already disposed of together with Stock Stock of horses, cattle, sheep, hogs ect. as also my Crop on hand with provisions ect.
Item I give and bequeath to my son Josiah Atkinson and his heirs forever, one negro boy named Dirk to him and his heirs forever.
Item I give unto my Daughter Anne Atkinson, one negro girl named Judah to her and her heirs forever with her Increase.
Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Eliz-th Atkinson, one negro girl named Tamor and her future Increase to her and her heirs forever.
The Whole remainder of my Estate not already disposed of, I Desire may be sold and the money arise from the sale thereof I Desire to be Equally Divided between all my Sons and Daughters. To Wit - Jesse Stephen, Absolom Job, Hezekiah, Isiah, Josiah, Anne and Elizabeth Atkinson to them and their heirs forever. I do not mean that any of the Legacies given to my children are to be given up until after the Decease or Future marriage of my wife Mary Atkinson, Except the land given Josiah and the feather beds given to Josiah, Anne and Eliz-th Atkinson. Lastly I appoint Isiah Atkinson, Josiah Atkinson and my wife Mary Atkinson to be Exors. and Exoutrixs to this my Last Will and Tesament to which I set my hand and fix my seal this twenty Third day of March One Thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Six."

"William Atkinson (Attkisson) of Goochland County, Virginia, Parish of St. James Northam, signs his will - 23 March 1776, naming children of his 1st marriage: Jesse, Stephen, Absolom, Job, Hezikiah, Isaiah. Children of his 2nd wife, Mary Perkins: Josias, Anne and Elizabeth. This William Atkinson is thought to be the son of William Atkinson, who married a Parker in Henrico County, Virginia, January 17, 1716 - St. John's Church."
Excerpts from will of William Atkinson: At the court held for Goochland County, Virginia, July 20, 1778, wife Mary etc. - "The remainder of my estate not already diposed of etc. I desire to be equally divided between my sons and daughters Jesse, Stephen, Absolom, Job, Hezikiah, Isaiah, Josias, Ann and Elizabeth, to them and their heirs forever." Notes: The first six sons named in William's will were sons of the first marriage. The last three children (Josias, Ann and Elizabeth) were of the second marriage, to Mary Perkins, daughter of Constantine Perkins, and a sister of Ann, wife of William Oglesby and of Elizabeth, wife of Joseph Ellis of Henrico County, Virginia.

"I Samuel Atkinson of Cumberland county being in good health and of perfect disposing mind sence & memory do make my last will and testament that is to say after discharging my just debts and necessary funeral expenses. I give and bequeath to my loving and beloved wife Mary Ann two negro Slaves named Dick, a man and Kate, also one third of all my personal Estate, my still and black smiths tools excepted. I also lend to my said beloved wife a negro woman named Jane during her natural life, and after her decease to my daughter Mary Johnson. I also lend to my said wife during her natural life the use & profits of two hundred acres of land part of the tract whereon I now dwell and in such part thereof as she shall choose so as to include the mansion house and the necessary offices thereto belonging & part of the plantation and wood land as she shall find most convenient, and a negro man named Jack which said bequest and loans are hereby meant to be taken by her in lieu of her Dower in my estate I give and bequeath to my Son Samuel the tract of land & plantation whereon I now live, including the part thereof loaned to my loving wife, containing by estimation four hundred & thirty five acres more or less, also a negro man named Jack, and a negro man named Moses, and a negro boy named Jesse and my still and black smiths tools, to him and his Heirs forever. But it is to be understood that this bequest is not meant to deprive my wife of the benifit of loan above made to her of part of the said land and slave Jack.I give and bequeath to my sons Josiah & Jesse my tract of land in Pittsylvania County whereon the said Josiah now resides containing by estimation four hundred & fifty acres more or less to be equally divided between them, provided nevertheless that if I shall at any time hereafter purchase other lands and give them to either of them the said Josiah & Jesse by Deed or otherwise he to whom such land shall be given shall relinquish to the other by Deed of relinquishment or otherwise as shall be deemed most advisable to all claim under these presents to the saaid four hundred and fifty acres land or any part thereof without any reserve whatever. I also give and bequeath to my said Son Josiah a negro boy named Frank now in his possession to him and his Heirs forever. And to my son Jesse a negro boy named Ben, and a feather bed & furniture, to him and his Heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my Son Robert two hundred and sixty nine acres of land more or less which includes lands conveyed to me by John Montague and Laurence Smith, whereon Montagues old ordinary is situate and a negro girl named NOH also a feather Bed and furniture to him and his Heirs forever. I give in Trust to my Son Josiah Atkinson a female negro slave named Rachel and her children, and negro girl slave named Rose, which were intrusted to the possession of John Johnson, and my Daughter Nancy his wife on or about the ninth day of March one thousand seven hundred and ninety-two, for the purposes following that is to say that my said Daughter Nancy and her children, shall during the natural life of her the said Nancy, without any lett, hindrance, or molestation, from him the said John Johnsone enjoy the full benefit and use of the labour of the said slaves and their future increase if any and after the death of my said Daughter, I give and bequeath the said slaves and their increase to be equally divided among the children of my said Daughter or their legal representatives, and it is my particular request that my said Son Josiah will take upon himself the burthen (sic) of this trust. "In the name of God, amen. I, Jesse Atkinson, of the County of Henry being in Common health humbly to God of sound mind & disposing memory and causing to mind the uncertainty of Human life and the estate that it hath, ask God to help me with. I do dispose of in the manner & form following viz. First, I do give to my beloved wife, Ruth Atkinson, all my estate, estate both real and personal that I am now in possession of in the State of Virginia during her natural life, and likewise my Negro man Abel. I give her to dispose off as she thinks proper. The residue of my estate except my land, at her decease, I give to my four single daughters Elizabeth, Meekey, Ruth & Salley to be equally divided between them. Secondly, I give to my son Isaiah Atkinson, after the decease of his mother, the tract of land whereon I live, provided he complys on his part with the conditions of an oath of agreement entered into between us respecting the said tract of land and deposited in the hands of John Dillard, and case my son Isaiah should decease before his mother and leave no lawful issue, my will and desire is that my wife dispose of the said tract of land for the benefit of her children as she may think best and further my will is that if either of my single daughters above mentioned should marry before the death of their mother that such of them when they marry should receive a good cow & calf and a feather bed and furniture. Thirdly, as I have addressed my other children that has left me to wit, my sons Stephen, William, Sollomon, Jesse and Jobb, and my daughters Nancy Hill now deceased and Polly Moore, I give to them and their heirs the property they have already received as being all that I can do for them. And I do hereby appoint my wife Ruth Atkinson, my son Isaiah Atkinson and John Dillard, Jr. executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and disavowing all other wills by me made. First I desire that all my just debts be paid out of my estate
2nd I give and bequeth to my dearly beloved wife Nancy Atkinson my whole estate both real and personal to be possessed of during her life

At a County Court began and held for the County of Adair at the courthouse at Columbia on Monday the 4th day of September 1820 The last Will and Testament of Absolem Atkinson deceased was produced in court and proven by the oath of Samuel Crawley and Archibald Skaggs subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Zachariah Taylor one of the executors named in said will who took the oath required having also given bond with William Bradshaw his security in the penal sum of $4000 conditioned as the execution of said will was granted him directs
It is ordered to be Certified, lease is reserved that Isaiah Atkinson and Morris Atkinson the other two exors named in said will to join in the said probate thereof if they should think proper.

"In the name of God Amen. I Ruth Atkisson of Williamson County and State of Tennessee, being unwell in body and mind, though in perfect sense and memory, do think proper to make and ordain this my last will and testament (revoking all others) in manner and form following..to wit. viz. 1st I give and bequeath to my daughter Sally Attkisson the negro man Abel, whose labour I wish to be equally distributed among the four children now living with me. viz. the above named Sally, my son Isaiah Attkisson, Elizabeth Attkisson and Meekey Attkisson, so long as they may think proper to live together, and in case they should think proper to part, it is my desire that the above described Abel should be sold, and the profits equally divided among my four above named children. 2nd. "I, Stephen Atkisson, of the County of Talladega, Alabama, do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making all wills by me at any time heretofore made. First, I direct that all my debts and funeral expenses as soon after my decease as possible out of the first moneys that shall come into the hands of my executors for the purpose of raising such money. My Negro Boy Ralph must be sold together with all my stock of Horses, Cattle, Hogs and plantation tools and household furniture not otherwise disposed of in this will. Also I direct that Elias, Warren, Charlett & Sarah (Negroes) and one hundred and twenty acres of land on the west end of my tract, two horses, a part of my stock of Cattle, Hogs and one years provisions shall be and remain the absolute property of my beloved wife during her lifetime. And at her death my Negro boy Warren is to belong to my son Clark. And the balance of the above bequeathed property and the income thereof to be Sold, and the proceeds to be equally divided between all of my children. Also I give to my son John, Eighty acres of land on the east end of my tract and also Negro Boy Liberty. To my Son I give Negro boy Jordan. I give to my Daughter Ruth one bed and furniture and Negro Girl Louisa. To my Daughter Jane I give one bed and furniture and Negro Girl Hamut (?). I give to my son William Negro Boy George. To my son Green one chunk (?) of horse. Also Saddle & Bridle and Negro boy Bob. I give to my daughter Elizabeth Negro boy Seath also one bed and furniture and Saddle & Briddle. "Whereas, I Stephen Atkisson of the County of Talladega and State of Alabama have by my last will and testament in writing duly executed bearing date the twenty first day of June 1843 Given and bequeath to my Son Clark Negro boy Warren at the death of his Mother. Now I the Said Stephen Atkisson being desirous of altering my said will in respect to said legacy and in respect to one hundred and twenty acres of land bequeathed in said will to my Wife during her life do therefore make this present writing which I will and direct to be annexed as a codicil to my said will and taken as part thereof and I do hereby revoke said legacy to my son Clark, and given to him Charlette's child Samuel, to take possession of whenever he likes, and Warren is to be sold at the death of my wife together with all other propery in said will.(?) and I do give to my sons William and Green equally the one hundred and twenty acres of land aforesaid, at the death of my wife, and I do ratify and confirm my said will in everything except where the (?) is hereby revoked, and altered as aforesaid in witness whereof I hereunto put my hand & Seal this 17th day of June and year of our Lord 1844."

Know all men by these present that Mr. Jesse Attkisson, William G. Smith & Windham West are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable the Justices of the Inferior Court of said County sitting for Ordinary purposes & their successors in office in the just and full sum of four hundred dollars for the payment of which sum to the Justices aforesaid & their successors in office do bind ourselves, our heirs, Executors & administrators in the whole & for the whole jointly & severally & firmly by these present & sealed with our seals dated the 6th day of November 1848.
The condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bound Jesse Attkisson administrator of the Estate real & personal of William Attkisson late of this County deceased do make a true & perfect inventory of all the Estate both real and personal of said deceased which have or shall come to the hands, possession or knowledge of the said Jesse Attkisson or unto the hands or possession of any other person or persons for him,, & the same so made do exhibit unto the said Court of Ordinary when he shall therewith required and such estates do will and truly administer according to Law, and do make a just & true account of his actings & doings thereas when he shall be therewith required by the Court of Ordinary for said County and all the rest aforesaid Estate which shall be found remaining on account of said administration the same being first allowed by the Court, shall deliver & pay to such person or persons respectfully as an subtract(?) to the sum by Law. And if it should hereafter appear that any last Will & Testament was made by the deceased & the same be proven before the Court & the Executors obtain a Certificate of the Probate thereof & the said Jesse Attkisson do in such case if required ______ & deliver up said letters of Administration then the above obligation to be void. Else to remain in full force.

1856 Mar 18 Mrs. Mary Atkinson Death Notice - Williamson Co., TN
Mrs. Mary Atkinson died after an illness of two weeks. Born Feb. 17, 1758 in Cumberland Co., VA; moved to this state in the fall of 1811 and settled in Maury Co., TN, where she resided two years; then moved to Williamson Co., TN. Widow of the late Elder John Atkinson who died Apr 02, 1837. She was age 98 years, l month and 1 day. Funeral to be preached at Leipers Fork on the 4th Lord's day in April.
1864 Mar 22 Bedford/Williamson Co., TN
Thomas E. Davis and Nancy H. Davis, his wife, filed against Sally Sprouse and Dr. Jennings Moore, all of Bedford Co., TN. They stated that Mickey F. Atkinson departed this life in Bedford Co., in Jan. 1861 after making the Last Will and Testament in which she devised to Nancy H. Marshall, now your oratrix Nancy H. Davis, a tract of land in Bedford Co. on which she lived at her death, on Clems Creek, Civil District No. 11, adjoining John Battle, James Finney and Silas Sprouse, about 63 acres. Dr. Jennings Moore was executor. They stated that March 1863, the Court House of Bedford Co. was destroyed by fire and many of the public records. Will book was burned. Sally Sprouse is the only surviving sister of the testatrix. Bedford Co., TN
